Jaxson's Birth Story

Thursday June 28th, 2012:
Mommy had an appointment at Dr. Webb's office.
I had been feeling contractions about every 30 mins but pretty mild at this point.
Daddy & Grammie came with me to my appointment.
Cervix= 0cm dialated and 0% effaced.
Induction was scheduled for Monday, July 2nd.

Mommy lost her mucous plug that night.

Friday June 29th, 2012:
Contractions were getting closer together, about every 15 mins.
I was uncomfortable and couldn't sleep. I called the on-call Doctor to check-in and make sure I was okay to wait - he stated he wanted my contractions 5 mins apart before heading to the hospital.
So, Mommy took lots of warm baths and battled through it.

Saturday June 30th, 2012:
Contractions were now 7-10 mins apart, religiously.
By this time, I was very uncomfortable and in pain every time a contraction started.
Daddy & I went to the hospital to have them hook you up to the monitors and make sure you were okay.
At 7:30 p.m. on Saturday you were still hanging in there. NST came back great.
It was looking like we would be holding off until the scheduled induction on Monday.
Grammie took some pictures of Mommy & Daddy that night - little did we know that this would be the last night without our son in this world.

Mommy champed through the contractions for the rest of the night.
At 3:30 a.m. (Now Sunday, July 1st) my water broke.
I woke up Grammie, she called Daddy and he headed over.
I jumped in the shower and made sure we had everything for the hospital.

Daddy picked up Grammie & I and we were off!
I think it was safe to say we were ALL VERY nervous at this point. Driving to the hospital my contractions were 5 mins apart & I was ready to have you!!
Traffic at this time in the morning wasn't bad. We made it pretty quick. It was a beautiful crisp summer night/morning in Arizona. A night/morning that would change my life FOREVER!

We parked and made our way up to the second floor of Scottsdale Shea. I informed the desk that my water had broke and they admitted me into Triage (Room #2). They hooked me up to the NST and watched your movement and my contractions for about 45 mins.

I was 2cm dialated at this point. The nurse came back in and said we were good to go, they would be admitting me into labor & delivery shortly. They started my IV and we were ready to roll. They did inform me that unfortunately Dr. Webb would not be present for your delivery - but that I would have Dr. Hale.

Grandma and Grandpa Johnson, Uncle Shaq and the girls arrived and came back to see us in triage.

The nurses gave me an hour to walk the halls to help speed up the process. Mommy, Daddy and Grammie walked and walked, I had to stop ever-so-often when a contraction would hit.

We were greeted in the hall by a nurse named Allie. She informed us that she would be my labor & delivery nurse and that my room was ready. We got all of our bags and moved into Room # 2427.

I got situated in bed and Allie came to check me. I was now 4cm dialated and 100% effaced.

She asked if I was interested in an epidural, I was. Dr. Lee, the Anesthesiologist, came in shortly after and gave me my epidural. It was perfect, I became tingly from my waist down and the discomfort of the contractions soon disappeared.

They started a medicine in my IV called Pitocin at 10:15 a.m.. This helps speed up the contractions. I also had a hospitalist come in and make sure my water was broke completely.

Daddy, Grammie, Papa, Auntie Ashley, Avery, Grandma & Grandpa Johnson, Uncle Shaq, Auntie Levianna and Auntie Kyiesha were all in the room watching and waiting.

I was very tired from not getting much sleep the previous few nights so we decided it would be best for me to rest. I fell asleep for a couple of hours. All of the family watched big contractions come up on the screen...I was crashed! My epidural was working wonders!

Allie came in to check my progress. I was now 8cm dialated!
It was lunch time by now so we had all of the family go get lunch.
I tried to rest as much as I could.
The next thing I knew...Allie came in at about 2:00 p.m., she was on the phone with Dr. Hale. He stated he wanted her to check my progress so he knew how soon to head to the hospital. She checked me and bam...
10 cm & ready to push!
I was not in any discomfort. I felt no pressure. I was content and I was excited.
I hurried and texted the family to come back because it was GO time.
Minutes later...Daddy & Grammie arrived.

We set up the video camera and the pushing began. Every time I had a contraction they would make me push 3 times for 15 seconds each.
Dr. Hale entered the room. He was an older man, seemed wise and had a great personality. He talked football with Daddy during those inital few sets of pushes.

Still no sensation of pain, discomfort, pressure, etc.
I was so excited! I didn't know how close I was to finally meeting you.
I had watched too many shows where labor was awful and long and the mom was in intense pain.
Not my story, AT ALL.
It was a beautiful, peaceful experience.

"Alright Brittany, next push and Jaxson is coming", said Dr. Hale.
I COULDN'T BELIEVE IT! ALREADY?! I had only pushed for about 20 mins. I had experienced no discomfort. When was all of the horrible traumatic experiences, I had heard about, going to happen?
I was in shock that my baby boy was on his way out and that the aura of the room was so peaceful.

Then slight wimpers, a few cries and lots of big smiles as I looked down.
BABY JAXSON WAS HERE!!!!
